As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being.--Carl Jung

I'm against US Military Action in Iraq

Any military actions anywhere in the world, particularly in the name of "freedom" in the form of "wars" on drugs or "terrorism". Wars are on people. Actually, I don't know any Americans who DO think what our President has done this month is okay, which is strange. It all makes me sad. (10/02)

Still sad - DJ Tamara does not support the flipping off of the UN, nor the current administration. (3/03)

Speak Up!

Internet radio danger... Why has Headstrong not been broadcasting lately? Audiogalaxy is gone, Somafm.com is gone, Syndicate Recordings is gone, On The Corner is gone. Why? Most Internet radio stations are at risk of bankruptcy, and may be forced off the air by October 20th, because of a Congressionally-imposed royalty they will soon be required to pay to record labels. (You may have heard this called a "CARP" royalty, named for the U.S. Copyright Office's Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel that held hearings on what the rate should be.) Find out more at Saveinternetradio.org. YOU CAN STILL DO SOMETHING. If the record industry (the RIAA) doesn't offer a compromise "voluntary" license to smaller webcasters and/or if Congress doesn't pass emergency legislation by October 20th, most observers believe that the decision will effectively kill independent Internet radio. There's actually a lot you can do to encourage either action. (9/02)

Check the RAVE Act (Reducing American's Vulnerablity to Ecstasy Act) S.2633. The exact wording is here but basically it's an expansion of the federal "crackhouse" statute and targets venue owners, promoters, and anyone who profits from a gathering (djs?). Although the preamble of the bill mentions ill-defined "raves", the actual law is a little too vague and may be applied to virtually any gathering of people with music or entertainment. You can fight for your constitutional rights to freedom of Expression and Assembly at many public park events across the country this weekend. And for all you Washington voters, your senator Maria Cantwell supports the bill, if you don't approve you need to let her know how you feel. An email only takes a few minutes! more (9/02)

GET INVOLVED!

See the awesome Future of Music website to keep up to date on important issues and get involved in the music industry. DJ Trixie has made a tribute page for our dear friend Brock, the 7 million dollar man with no insurance who sustained a serious brain injury last summer. Brock is a very special person to everyone who knows him and a brilliant person who deserves to go back home again.

Bogdan is a 21 year old guy who likes electronic music very much. His dream is to become a drum and bass DJ. Trouble is, he lives in Galati, Romania and makes less than $100 a month, about standard for workers in his poor country. He has one ancient Gemini BD10, which was handed down to him 3 years ago. He's not asking for much - he's just hoping that if anyone has a turntable they don't need, that they would be willing to give it to him. He didn't ask for it, but it would be nice to send him some records too, I can't imagine that the exchange rate is vary favorable for him. He likes "stuff like Ed Rush, Photek, Drumsound, the True Playaz stuff, Emotif... also breaks. Nu skool, progressive, tech-funk..." Email me for more info, he seldom gets web access.

Other people have asked me for help in the past, and everything was lost with the death of the laptop. If you are one of those people, please send your info again. If you are a Mac technician/fixer upper with a big heart, please email me. ;)

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security"

--Albert Einstein
